Austria - Swift invoicing of road toll

Austria

Road toll is collected on all Austrian motorways and expressways for vehicles with a maximum permissible weight (MPW) of more than 3.5 t. The road toll is based on the euro norm, kilometres and axles. For cars registered after July 1, 2019, the fee also depends on the emission class.

FDE offers to settle the road toll in Austria for you by handling the contact, registration and invoicing.

If you have the German OBU (on-board device) through FDE, we can register this device for payment of road toll in Austria as well.

Telepass SAT – one unit for toll payment in 18 countries

With FDE’s electronic payment solution, everything becomes easier for you. With Telepass SAT, everything is combined into one unit, so you can pay road and bridge fees electronically in many European countries without needing multiple units for the different countries you drive in.

With a Telepass SAT unit in the vehicle you can pass through and travel freely in most of Europe without having to stop at payment transitions.

The unit is easy to install, requires no extensive technical knowledge, and is quickly activated.

FDE’s Telepass SAT is particularly useful for you who operate in multiple countries, as it reduces the complexity of managing different toll systems and payment methods and saves you a lot of administration. The fees are calculated automatically, and we invoice you every 14 days.

TEU

This device can be used as payment method in Austria, France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, the Liefkenshoektunnel in Belgium and on A4 between Krakow and Katowice in Poland. More countries will be added continuously.

The standard setup of the device includes France, the Liefkenshoektunnel in Belgium and A4 in Poland. Other countries can be added.

How it works
The device will be issued among other to the registration number of the vehicle etc. and placed in the windscreen. With the TEU device you can continue without having to stop at the toll booths, because the toll is registered automatically which gives you a smooth and fast passage.

Discount scheme
It is possible to achieve discount in France, Spain and Italy on specific conditions. The discount depends on the route of motorway you use (not applicable in Italy), your number of journeys per month and the distance covered.

GO-Box

The toll can be paid through an electronic device in the vehicle; GO-Box. We offer a payment card called MS card, which must be linked to the GO-Box for the payment through us.

How it works
The device is installed in the windscreen of the vehicle and no other additional installation is required. It calculates the rates based on number of axles, number of kilometres driven and the euro norm of the vehicle.

How to get it

As soon as you have received the MS Card, you can pick up the GO-Box at one of the GO-Maut stations.
See where to pick up here.

When picking up the GO-Box, it is IMPORTANT that you mention that the box has to be linked to your MS Card in order to have the invoicing through FDE.

Changes as of January 2010 in the Austrian Toll – GO-Box
In January 2010, Austria changed the rules concerning all vehicles with a maximum permissible weight (MPW) of more than 3.5 t. Since then the toll has been based on the vehicle’s euro norm according to EU law.

The toll is divided into 3 categories A, B and C.
Category C – applying for euro norm 0-3, approx. 10% more than now
Category B – applying for euro norm 4 and 5, approx. 4% less than now
Category A – applying for euro norm EEV and 6, approx. 10% less than now

Existing GO-Box
The existing GO-Box can still be used, but it is automatically coded for the new category group C, so you have to make sure to show your GO-Box at a GO-Box centre, if it is not euro norm 0-3. At the centre, the box will be coded to the correct euro norm.
